The South Carolina Highway Patrol charged a Myrtle Beach Police officer with driving under the influence Friday morning.

Trooper David Lilly charged 38-year-old James Allen Post following a traffic stop, then booked him into the J. Reuben Long Detention center at 2:26 a.m.

Post, an officer with the Myrtle Beach Police Department, joined the force in August 2007. His employment with the MBPD ended Monday, according to department spokesman Capt. David Knipes.

In April 2001, the Highway Patrol charged Post with open container or beer or wine in a motor vehicle, but Judge Rebecca Lovelace found Post not guilty at a bench trial in May 2001.

Post posted bond and was released from jail Friday morning at 11 a.m. following his bond hearing on the DUI charge.

A court date is set for Post’s charges within the next 45 days.
