A soldier from Conway is dead after a roadside bomb explosion in Iraq.

U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Ronald Phillips Jr., 33, died Thursday.

Cpt. Justin Devantier, a casualty assistance officer with the Army, says Phillips was in a patrol vehicle when a bomb struck the vehicle.

Devantier said Phillips was on his second tour of duty in Iraq.

Phillips was deployed with the 3rd Infantry Division out of Fort Stewart, Ga.

Phillips was married and had a 7-year-old son and an 8-year-old daughter, all of whom still live in the Conway area.

Phillips’ funeral is scheduled for Friday.

Another soldier down
Here we go again-bring them back in body bags, our young women and men.
As they fight for this country-in a war that wasnt really hurting you and me.
Yet our young men are dying in a country so far way-for what reason today.
Maybe what Anthony saw we didnt see-thats why he continued to fight for this country.
Anthony was a soldier and he should be thanked as one-he was a brave soldier one of Americas sons..
Thank you from Pat the Poet-NMBeach
