MYRTLE BEACH (AP) _ A national effort to fight prostate cancer came to Myrtle Beach Sunday offering free prostate screenings. The simple blood test would cost $200 in a doctor’s office.
A van operated by the group ZERO, which is short for Zero Tolerance for Prostate Cancer, visited the Myrtle Beach Convention Center on Sunday. It will move to the PGA Tour Superstore on Monday and Tuesday.
The clinic offers about 20,000 free screenings nationwide each year. More than 200 men were tested when the van visited Myrtle Beach last April. Three cases of cancer were discovered.
The golf trade association Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday is helping sponsor the visit. President Bill Golden says all the golfers visiting the beach provide a great chance to promote screenings.
