Hundreds of people gathered in Murrells Inlet for the 25th annual 4th of July Boat Parade. The parade is held along the Inlet shoreline. Many of the boaters included families and military groups. Coordinators with the event called this year’s theme “Freedom is great in 2008!”. They also say Georgetown County declared today Bob Hendrick Day for his role as one of the parade’s original founders.

The 2008 Murrells Inlet July 4th Boat Parade was great and merits more coverage than I’ve seen so far. The boats were (mostly) tasteful and in keeping with the theme. Many entrants went to great lengths to entertain the masses along the boardwalk and pier. Thanks to the merchants and restaurants along the way who accommodated the massive crowds. People were pleasant and congenial, helpful and friendly. Despite the huge number of visitors, the even really felt like a small community event. My thanks to the organizers and participants in this excellent event!
