Surfside Beach Town Council has two new members. Allen Deaton was elected Mayor by defeating incumbent Roy Hyman in Tuesday's run-off election. Deaton defeated Hyman by more than 20 percentage points.

Members of Christ Community Church in Conway said they are deeply disappointed with what they call an unjust sentence. The church?s leader, Pastor Phillip Miles was as sentenced Monday to three years and two months in a Russian prison.
Bond denied for Conway murder suspect
The man Conway police charged with killing Andrico Gowens on Nov. 2, 2007 found himself inside a Conway courtroom Monday. Henry Jermaine Dukes faces murder charges after investigators said he shot Gowens to death inside Gowens’ Suggs Street home in Conway.
Conway pastor sentenced to 3 years in Russian prison
A Moscow court on Monday convicted a U.S. pastor of smuggling hunting ammunition into Russia and sentenced him to more than three years in prison. Phillip Miles, from South Carolina, has been in custody since his arrest Feb. 3, several days after arriving in Moscow. The court sentenced him to serve three years and two months in prison, with the sentence calculated from his detention date.
