County to elect officers

DARLINGTON — Darlington County Council members will elect officers for 2009 when council meets on Jan. 6.
Council will elect a chairman, vice chairman and chaplain.
Four returning council members will be sworn in during the meeting, which begins at 6 p.m. They are Billy Baldwin of District 1, Wilhelmina Johnson of District 3, Le Flowers of District 5 and Alex “Buz” Shaw of District 7.
Council is scheduled to have third reading on an ordinance amending an existing multi-county business park agreement with Marlboro County during Tuesday’s meeting. A public hearing on the measure will be held before a vote.
Members are also expected to hear from new Darlington County Sheriff Wayne Byrd, who will be sworn into office Sunday.
Tuesday’s meeting will take place at the Courthouse Annex/EMS Building at 1625 Harry Byrd Highway.
