S.C. educators chart a course to renew their passions for teaching

Darlington native garners fellowship
Darlington native Donna Isgett, the vice president for quality and safety at McLeod Health in Florence, is one of 22 business, government and nonprofit professionals selected from around South Carolina to receive a Liberty Fellowship, according to a release from the fellowship.
SCGSSM receives grant from Toyota USA Foundation
The South Carolina Governor’s School for Science and Mathematics (GSSM) is pleased to announce a $200,000 grant from the Toyota USA Foundation. This gift will help launch the school’s new Portable Advanced Science Exploration (PASE) project.

Darlington County educators earn credit by learning about agriculture
Educators in Darlington County’s Emmanuel Christian School, West Hartsville Elementary School and Thornwell School of the Arts recently completed a rigorous week learning about the importance of family farmers and domestically produced food, fiber, and fuel at the SC Farm Bureau (SCFB) 2008 Summer Ag in the Classroom Teacher Institute in Anderson, S.C. Participants came away from the institute better equipped to teach their students about the sources of their food, fiber, forestry products and fuel.
School board hears renovation costs
The Darlington County School Board will decide on renovations to both Brockington Elementary in Darlington and the Hartsville High School gymnasium before the beginning of the 2008-09 school year, District Superintendent Dr. Rainey Knight said at Monday’s board meeting.

Cadets attending The Citadel will pay 9 percent more in tuition this fall. The Post and Courier of Charleston reported Monday that the military college’s board of visitors approved the tuition increase Saturday.
