Cricket Newman brought lots of holiday decorating ideas with her when she came to speak at an event sponsored by the Master Gardeners of Kalmia Gardens.
Newman used flowers and greenery found in this area in yards, along the highway and in the woods to make beautiful Thanksgiving arrangements that can be transformed with little trouble into Christmas arrangements.
Members of the Master Gardeners showed their artistic talents by decorating the tables at Wesley UMC’s All Saints Hall for the luncheon coinciding with the workshop.
Newman said work could begin with a large oval container, and then work flowers and greenery into it making sure not to get the elements too high. The arrangement shouldn’t obstruct guest’s view of one another.
She also provided the guests with several helpful hints on how to keep arrangements fresh throughout the holiday season.
Handouts on poisonous plants were also given out.
She gave out some helpful websites for purchasing vases: Save-on-crafts.com, Smart bargains.com, Potterybarn.com, Pier1.com, Crateand barrel.com, Target.com, Jamaligarden.com and floral supplies: Save-on-crafts.com and Floralife.com.
Those attending came away with new ideas and added confidence for their holiday decorating.
