Digital Age puts photo shop out of business
With Internet services and digital technology replacing traditional film processing and printing services, one local photo shop is calling it quits after 23 years in business. American Fast Photo and Imaging, a full-service photo lab and frame boutique at 500 E. Main St., Spartanburg, will close Jan. 15.

Black Creek Gallery exhibit opens Thursday night
For January and February, works by Nathan Gulledge, Jennifer Webb, Patz Fowle and Steve Roos will be shown in the Black Creek Arts Center Gallery.
These works are being shown in conjunction with the Every Child Is An Artist Program (ECIAA). “ECIAA is geared toward exposing young people to the presence of art in their environment, while demystifying the art-making process,” said Bruce Douglas, executive director of Black Creek Arts Center.
An opening reception will be held on Thursday, Jan. 8, from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
Three queens crowned for pageant’s 70th anniversary
For the 70th anniversary of the Miss Hartsville Pageant on Saturday night at the Center Theater, the Miss Hartsville Scholarship Pageant committee surprised the audience of nearly 500, with the crowning of two queens,.One will be Miss Hartsville and the other Greater Miss Hartsville.
Kelly Annette Sloan, a 23-year-old Coastal Carolina University graduate, was crowned Miss Hartsville. Joelle Davis Head, a 22-year-old student at the College of Charleston from Gilbert, was crowned Miss Greater Hartsville.
In the Miss Hartsville Teen Pageant, Savannah McAlister, 13, of Hartsville won the coveted title.

A look back, part II of 2008 in review
July began with the students who had participated in the ArtSummer program hosting their finale to showcase their talents. The first week of July brought about many activities to celebrate Butler Heritage Week, which raises funds to help restore the old Butler High School.
The Little Miss and Teen Miss South Carolina pageants were also held in Hartsville at the Center Theater. Several local queens participating in the Miss South Carolina Pageant distinguished themselves at the state pageant. Miss Hartsville Morgan Dampier and Miss Hartsville Teen Brittany Caldwell both made it in the top ten of their respective pageants. Anna Perry, a former Trinity Collegiate student, was crowned Miss South Carolina.

Miss Hartsville, Miss Teen pageants Saturday
The 2009 Miss Hartsville Scholarship Pageant is Saturday, Jan. 3, at 7 p.m. in the Center Theater, and the crowning of a new Miss Hartsville and Miss Hartsville Teen will mark the 70th anniversary of the local pageant.
The theme for this festive occasion is “Rocking the Crown for 70 years.”
