Spirit of Florence: July 5 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Timrod Park; Florence’s premiere Independence Day festival featuring entertainment and activities for the whole family. Bring a picnic lunch or purchase food and refreshments from vendors. The celebration continues at American Legion Field with a musical performance by Midlife Crisis at 5 p.m. and a Florence Red Wolves baseball game at 7 p.m. (admission to the game is $5). A fireworks show will follow.

Spirit of Central presents the Fantastic Plaids: July 2 at 6:30 p.m. Central United Methodist Church, Florence. Come early to enjoy a roast beef dinner and apple pie dessert beginning at 5:30 p.m.. Meal is $4 for adults and $2 for children 11 and younger.

Murrells Inlet 25th Annual July 4th Boat Parade: July 4 at 10 a.m. This year’s theme is “Freedom is Great in 2008.” Spectators can line the Marshwalk area for the best view of the parade.

Murrells Inlet Fourth of July Fireworks: July 4 at 10 p.m.; Fireworks are shot off from a shell island in the middle of the Murrells Inlet marsh. The patriotic display of the red, white and blue can be seen from the shoreline of the marsh. Best viewing areas are the Marshwalk and Belin Methodist Church.

Myrtle Beach’s Independence Day Celebration: July 3 at 5 p.m. at BB&T Coastal Field, corner of 21st Ave, North and Robert Grissom Parkway; features food, fun, music and fireworks. Bring a blanket/chair to sit in the outfield, or watch from the grandstand. Picnic fare will be available, or bring your own picnic — coolers welcome, no glass containers allowed.
