Since the mid-90's Harley Davidson has used the Myrtle Beach Convention Center as a big vendor location. But officials with both groups say things have changed. Harley Davidson has found a new home at Hard Rock Theme Park.
Mark Kruea with the City of Myrtle Beach said, "It's fairly short notice for us. So we're working with road shows which (are) one of the promoters for other Harley Davidson events. Perhaps we can work out an arrangement where they'll occupy that space during the Harley Davidson week."
Convention Center will still get money from Harley Davidson, per their contract said Kruea. "We do have a contract for the next three years. They're cancelling that so they're still obligated for the rental of the Convention Center unless we can replace that business,” he said.
Harley Davidson spokesmen Mike Shank says they were looking for more space to set up. They want to create a festival atmosphere with the new added room. Harley Davidson officials say they like having the park as a back drop for the rally. Kruea says the Convention Center shouldn't have a difficult time finding a replacement. "We have a tremendous variety of business at the Convention Center. Everything from 5,000 cheerleaders to conferences to well drillers. It's a very busy place year round,” he said.
The new contract between Harley Davidson and Hard Rock Park is for five years.
The venue will be located in a parking lot between Hard Rock Theme Park, which is behind the old Waccamaw Pottery and Myrtle Beach Community Church off Highway 501.
