Senate 32 candidate Sabb removes name from House ballot

KINGSTREE, S.C. – S.C. Rep. Ronnie Sabb, D-101, who will run for the state’s 32nd Senate District unopposed in November, announced Thursday his name will not be on the ballot for the House seat he currently holds.

A special election will be held on Oct. 28 for voters in the 101st House District to elect a new representative. Filing for the House seat will be Oct. 7-14.

Former Georgetown Economic Development Director charged with tax evasion

COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Wayne Emerson Gregory, Jr., of Union County, was arrested Thursday by South Carolina Department of Revenue investigators and charged with three counts of income tax evasion and 14 counts of property tax evasion, all of which are felony charges.

Man sought in Johnsonville bank robbery

JOHNSONVILLE, S.C. – Johnsonville Police seek a man who robbed a city bank at gun point Tuesday afternoon, and fled the area quickly.

Chief Ron Douglas said at around 4:26 p.m., a black male entered Anderson Brothers Bank at 133 N. Georgetown Highway and presented a handgun.

Communities rally to support Hemingway child with heart defect

HEMINGWAY, S.C. – Dozens of volunteers prepared about 2,000 pileau dinners Friday in an effort to raise money for the family of a local infant who suffers from a severe heart condition.

Zane Wenger, born in October 2013, lives with a heart defect known as Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. The 11-month old was essentially born with only half of his heart.

Sabb wins Senate 32 run-off

KINGSTREE, S.C. – S.C. Rep. Ronnie Sabb, D-101, won the Democratic Primary run-off for South Carolina’s 32nd District Tuesday night by 58.7 percent of the vote over Williamsburg County Councilman Sam Floyd.

With the victory, Sabb’s name will be the only to appear on the ballot for November’s general election, as there were no Republican candidates, and he will likely become the state’s newest senator.
