John Wesley "Buddy" Carter HEMINGWAY - Mr. John Wesley "Buddy" Carter, age 79, passed away Tuesday, September 24, 2013, surrounded by his loving family, at his daughter's home. He was the widower of the late Maxine Pope Carter. Born in Georgetown, SC, a son of the late John Benson and Alice Wesley Carter. He was a life long farmer, attended Williams Hill Free Will Baptist Church and served in the SC National Guard. Buddy lost his father when he was 12 years old and was instrumental in raising his brothers and sisters. He was involved with soil conservation and was a great mediator. He was a benefactor to those in need. He was an avid horseman, who rode until he was 76, and loved western movies. He was blessed with a very generous, loving heart and giving spirit and instilled a work ethic in those who worked with and for him. Survivors include his daughters, Jolla C. Powell and Judy C.(Wiley) Owens; grandchildren, Brandy (Tony) DeHaas, Amy Owens, Matthew (Chasity) Powell, Carter (Jeremy) Walker, and Elizabeth Powell (Robby Dunaway, Fiance); great-grandchildren, Sydney DeHaas, Stella DeHaas, Tabbitha Powell, Maxine DeHaas, Johnathan Wesley Powell and Brody Owens; brother, John Nesbit Carter; sisters, Peggy (Harvey) Harrell, Clifton (Delores) Carter, Bobby (Speck) Wells, Nancy (Ric-hard) Sharpe Gladys Rabon and Johnette Carter (Jimmy) Drayton. He was predeceased by a son-in-law, Murreil Powell; brothers, J. B. Carter and John Wilber Carter; mother-in-law. Wilma Pope; sisters, Mary Alice Williams, Oneita Grier and Violet McLaughlin. Funeral services, conducted by Morris Funeral Home of Hemingway, will be held at 4:00 PM Thursday at the Morris Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Pine Bluff Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Wednesday, September 25, 2013.
