Bennettsville men arrested in copper theft investigation

BENNETTSVILLE -- Three Bennettsville men were arrested after a two-year investigation into with copper thefts.

Ernest Randall Alford, 33, of 522 Coxe Road West; James Kevin Barnhardt, 30, of 192 Pineview Road; and Kevin G. Collins, 31, of 1407 Marlboro Road, were charged with criminal conspiracy. Barnhardt and Collins alsso were charged with related charges of Malicious Damage to an Electrical Utility System (separate incidents from 2006 and 2008). The criminal conspiracy charge is related primarily to copper theft from the Marlboro Electric Cooperative over a period of several years, which involved them converting the copper to cash at local area salvage yards.
