The Pee Dee United Elks # 1679 and theExcelsiorTemple#790 had a day full of community service on Dec. 9. The groups came together to feed around 300 senior citizens at the lodge, something that they do all year long. For the Christmas season, they also handed out fruit baskets. After the meal, they visited the Billie Hardee Boys Home where they distributed gifts and fruit baskets to the residents.

Lastly, they went to The Heritage Home on Warley Street. The groups presented a plaque to Mrs. Elizabeth Scott Harlee. The plaque was in memory of her mother, Mrs. Essie Fort Harlee for whom the Washington-Harlee Council was named.
