Hardee board member says facility shut down ‘for economic reasons’

DARLINGTON, S.C. — The doors closed for the last time Friday at a Darlington boys’ home. After serving the community for 35 years, the Billie Hardee Home for Boys has shut down.

Lee Freeman, President of the home’s board of directors, said that senior staff and board members of the facility had been trying to “stay it off awhile” but knew that the closing was likely.
