FLORENCE, S.C. — Dr. Floyd Creech is constantly amazed by the accomplishments of Florence School District 1’s Montessori learners, and it only takes a single, “heartfelt” anecdote to see why.

The one Creech loves to tell is about the 4-year-old girl who had just completed a biology unit in her pre-kindergarten Montessori class at the R.N. Beck Early Childhood Center. A couple weeks later, during a Sunday school craft project, a parent asked the children to draw hearts.
