The columnist was off again last week and took the down time to plunder through some old newspapers, which, not surprisingly, are a great source of news. He ran across a feature story he did in February of 1980 on the late Maggie Lee Felder, a longtime cook at Joe’s Grill. Maggie came onboard when Joe’s opened in 1952. She was an institution at the Darlington eatery.

The same week I did the story on Maggie, I did a column about Maggie’s favorite spoon. A burglar used it to beat up on the cigarette machine.
