FLORENCE, S.C. — While Florence County recouped $1.4 million of $2 million in incentives it provided to the soon-to-be shuttering Heinz facility in Florence, the state only recouped $950,000 of its $3.5 million investment.

A letter to former Florence County Administrator Richard Starks from the South Carolina Coordinating Council for Economic Development (CCED) outlines the $3.5 million in grants the county received from the state to incentivize the H.J. Heinz Company to locate in Florence in June 2009.
