Fire destroys abandoned church Photo by Adrel S. Langley
A debris fire got out of hand on Huggins Road at about 3 p.m. this past Thursday, burning an abandoned church. Pete Cameron, who lives next door to the property, said he had been trying to get someone to burn the church down anyway, because of its deteriorated state. South Lynches Fire Department personnel outed the burning building while South Carolina Forestry Commission employees cut trenches around the thicket to stop the fire from moving to other nearby structures. Florence County Emergency Medical Services personnel also responded. Pictured, South Lynches Firefighters continue to spray water and check for hot spots in the abandoned church just after they outed the flames.
