Sara Jan Volk and James Scott Martinez were married at half past six in the evening on September 21, 2013. The ceremony and reception were held at Senate’s End in Columbia, South Carolina. The ceremony was held in the gardens and was officiated by the bride’s uncle, the Rev. Douglas B. Volk. The reception was held in The Hall immediately following the ceremony.

The bride, who was escorted by her father, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William A. Volk of Florence, South Carolina. She is a graduate of Furman University and the University of South Carolina School of Law. She is currently employed as Assistant General Counsel for the South Carolina State Housing Finance and Development Authority.

The bridegroom is the son of Mr. James Martinez of Rome, New York and Ms. Linda Whitford of Easthampton, Massachusetts. He is a graduate of Binghamton University and is currently employed as an electrical engineer with Wabtec Corporation.

Matron of Honor was Mrs. Natalie Norris Hart, friend of the bride. The bride’s sisters, Mrs. Helen Volk Burch and Mrs.

Mary Farkas Ketner, served as bridesmaids along with Miss Tracey Christine Easton, Mrs. Leigh Arrington McElveen, Mrs. Amber Mincey Teske and Mrs. Claire Eleanor Tiscornia, friends of the bride. The flower girl was Miss Analee Burch, niece of the bride.

Best man was Mr. Timothy Lukowski, friend of the

groom. Serving as groomsman were Mr. Samuel Burch, brother-in-law of the bride; Mr. Daniel Dufresne, brother-in-law of the groom; Mr. Brett Martinez, brother of the groom; Mr. Steve Rivera, friend of the groom; Mr. Christpher Tiscornia, friend of the groom; and Mr. William M. Volk, brother of the bride. Junior groomsman was Master Chase Ketner and the ring bearer was Master Preston Ketner, both nephews of the bride.

The scripture reading was given by Mrs. Magan Usher Volk, sister-in-law of the bride. The guestbook attendant was Mrs. Heather Dufresne, sister of the groom.

Ceremony music was provided by the Palmetto Brass. The ceremony also included a special performance by violinist Alycia Garwood Petrone, friend of the bride.

After a cruise through the Southern Caribbean, the couple will reside in Columbia, South Carolina.
